Some people come because of a root. Some come because there is a wedding on Saturday. And some come for no reason at all, simply because they need two hours in which nobody asks them for anything.

What follows is what we know how to do. The order is the one it usually happens in.

Nobody goes straight to the chair. First your head goes back, and for ten minutes you stop deciding anything at all.

COLOUR

This is how most people find us — and it is why they stay.

Blonde that does not turn yellow. Brown with light inside it. The root that stops showing without the rest looking painted. Colour is the one change you see in the mirror every morning, for months. That is why we treat it with the most care, and why it takes the longest — there is no other way to do it properly.

Before we touch the colour, we look at the hair that is already there.

THE CUT

Cutting is the decision that frightens people most and changes them fastest.

A good cut is not the one that looks right in the chair — it is the one that still makes sense on Tuesday morning, with ten minutes and no tools to hand. That is what we ask before picking up the scissors: what your day is like, not what your hair is like.

THE BARBERSHOP

The barbershop runs at another pace: the straight razor, the hot towel over your eyes, and half an hour in the middle of the afternoon without speaking to anyone.

THE FINISH

The cut and the colour are what stays. The finish is what walks out of the door.

A blow-dry done properly lasts three days. Waves done slowly do not look done. And a good updo is the one that survives an entire party without anyone touching it.

THE TREATMENT

It is not always the colour, and not always the cut.

Hair that has broken, hair that has lost its shine, hair that will no longer be combed. Here it is not hidden — it is rebuilt. And you feel it before you see it.

EXTENSIONS

Length, volume, or just the one patch that never grows like the rest.

Extensions applied well are never mentioned to anyone — that is the point. In all three salons.

HANDS AND FACE

While the colour rests, there is more to do.

Nails, brows, lashes, make-up. The whole thing happens here in one go, without crossing Lisbon halfway through the morning.

BRIDES

In Estoril there is a room that is not shared with anyone.

It is where the bride spends the morning — her, whoever she wants beside her, and nobody walking past behind. Hair, make-up and nails in one place, with no running across town on the day you least feel like running. She leaves through that door ready.

There is a trial beforehand, so that on the day itself nobody has to decide anything.

THE WELLNESS CLUB — ESTORIL

In Estoril we changed the question. Instead of what would you like done to your hair, it became how much time do you have.

Head spa: your head tipped back, warm water falling in a fan, and a pair of hands in no hurry at all. Work Your Face: the face worked muscle by muscle, without a needle, until it looks rested again. And massage, for anyone who arrives with their shoulders up by their ears.
